Le Sacre du Printemps |
Paintings 1993-1999 | Pablo Luis GonzálezLust underlies this series. The original painting that gave its name to the series, Le Sacred du Printemps, was painted in 1996 as a free interpretation of Stravinsky's ballet, one of my favourite pieces. Prehistoric figures, perhaps symbols of the power of fertility of earth and mothers, were in the back of my mind as I was painting it. I have no photographic record of this small painting, which is in a private collection. Saturday Night, a painting installation, was made after surveying on a Sunday morning the wreckage of the night before in club-land. Luscious Venus, Beware of wandering object seeking entry, and Come in! are mocking studies derived from pornographic imagery. They were painted on paper clay made from recycled men magazines. Sleeping lustful cat mimics the dreams of the subject of the title, particularly those dreamt on a Sunday morning. Lust, an early oil painting, was inspired by a tabloid photograph of an ageing reptilian rock star fondling the red thong clad bottom of a young fan, her dress hitched around her waist.
